My Top 10 Pet Peeves of working in an elementary school

1. Repeating myself - sometimes I explain something 3 or 4 times and still someone always manages to not understand and do their own thing
2. Runny noses - gross
3. Children swinging on chairs - it's an accident waiting to happen (right mom?)
4. Those damn French pens that explode all the time
5. Stupid spelling mistakes after we've gone over the word 10 times (ie. January 23th (the date is always on the board!) or I have too sisters)
6. It's an all woman staff (that speaks for itself)
7. Indoor recess (that also speaks for itself)
8. Report cards every few weeks
9. Marking papers/assignment/tests all the friggin' time
10. Having to be on my feet 90% of the day (plus our school is 5 floors so we have lots of stairs)

There are definitely more just 10 but I don't want to keep on bitching so I'll stop there. On the plus side, I am currently eating Doritos and drinking Coca-cola...how North American! eh?!

Celebrity Sighting

Ok so, Emily and Jeremie invited Steve and I to the Canadian bar tonight to watch the New Orleans vs Chicago football game (Emily's from New Orleans). Well, we got there and it was pretty damn packed mostly with crazy stupid Chicago fans. Anyway as we were standing and eating our mozarella sticks at the bar, Emily noticed that Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger were also sitting at the bar watching the game. Ok, so those of you that know me will know that celebreties make me nervous (remember the Kurt Browning incident?)...well knowing that Pacey was sitting just feet away completely stressed me out. I really wanted to ask him for his autograph (mostly for Adam) but decided to not make a fool out of myself so I left them in peace. Anyway I figured out why they are in town...Bobby comes out next week and I believe he's in that... http://www.fatbackandcollards.com/2006/06/19/diane-kruger-and-josh-jackson-in-paris/
P.S. Pacey is a New Orleans fan.
P.P.S. Emily, I planned my lesson for tomorrow on the metro....I decided to make my students write a 'mock-interview' with a celebrity. They'll love it! haha!

I love gargoyles

So, my picture worked...but the title of the blog doesn't...it flashes and then disappears....oh well. At least now I know how to post a picture and my mom liked the gargoyle (unlike some people...).
Not much is new around here. I'm back in school and back to tutoring. The big news is that I decided to join facebook so now all the Dreseris kids have it. Fun times!
Oh ya, I had a woman (mother of Mathieu, the boy I tutor) ask me to translate a 28 slide powerpoint presentation (BORING) so I worked on that all week. She sent it to me on Sunday and needed it for Wednesday. I worked my bum off!
This past Saturday I went to the 'Salon de Mariage' with Emily (American) and we had a lot of fun. We got to see tons of designer dresses and we attended the fashion show. Also this weekend, Emily (Canadian) was in Paris so we met up. She took back 24 kilos of my crap! Thanks Em!
I guess that's the news for now. I should get ready for work but I'm really lazy. I think it might be super cold out today cause I can hear the wind hitting the windows and vents. I'll check that out on meteofrance.fr before I head out so that I dress appropriately!
Later!

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3....

Just trying to see if this works (I'm learning!). If it did work, this is a picture of a gargoyle on the Notre Dame in Paris.

Back to school

It’s over! Where did the time go? I definitely don’t feel well rested and ready for school.
Anyway Christmas was a lot of fun. We went over to Mamie Jacqueline’s and Papi Jacques’ place for the big Christmas Eve dinner. Then we opened gifts on the 25th with Steve’s family at their place. I got lots of good stuff including an MP3 player and lots of DVDs (Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, etc.). Actually this year I got a ton of presents cause I got 24 at school from my students. I was pretty lucky! Can’t complain there.
Katie and Tom arrived on the 26th and we did a lot of touristy things together (and they did a lot on their own too). We took a trip to Tours to visit my favourite city. We celebrated New Year’s Eve here with a few other friends. It was an international party seeing as we were 3 Canadians, 1 French, 2 English, 1 American and 1 Spanish. Fun times!
Katie and Tom left yesterday (Saturday) and today I lesson planned and relaxed. Unfortunately I am still getting over my bronchitis that I picked up in the last week of school and didn’t get treated until Tuesday.
Well that’s that! Sorry for the lack of updates. I’ll try to post more often this year…hey that's a good New Year’s resolution!
